Please read the ENTIRE listing. This Thumb Rest DOES NOT FIT some of the 2014-2016 Ric 4003’s, and none of the 4003’s from 2017 on. Those may require our 4003v2 rest. This FITS ALL Ric 4003 basses made before 2015 with a one piece guard – Older two piece guard Ric 4003 requires a 4001 style rest (Contact us thru messaging about those. We have them, but need to confirm fit with you as the early 4001’s and 4003’s changed profiles year to year so we’d want to see which you have to give you the right fit.) This WILL FIT some early-2014 4003W, but check the pickguard pictures above to verify the guard used. (The 2014 4003W pickguard changed mid-year, so it can go either way.) MAY NOT FIT THE 2015, 2016 or later editions of the 4003S or 4003Wor 2016 editions of the 4003. This is the slightly fatter version of the classic Zero-Mod® thumb Rest for Rickenbacker model 4003. The classic is 1/4 inch thick, this “Fat Boy” is 3/8 thick. We made this in response to requests from Ric owners who loved the original but felt a somewhat thicker one would be the thing!We freely admit these aren’t for everybody — most players think the 1/4 inch is just right. This thumb rest is made out of 3/8 inch thick high quality dead clear polycarbonate, and precision CNC made in a machine shop here in the USA to match the shape of your guard perfectly. The position and design mean NO NEW HOLES in your bass! Includes two pick guard screws which are slightly longer than the stock Ric screws, so you do not even change the screw holes by adding this on. OK, So What Is It? A custom fit thumb rest for the latest version of the Rickenbacker 4003 bass requiring ZERO MODifications to your bass! This is a thicker version of our 4003v2 thumb rest (available in another listing). This fits the NEW STYLE PICKGUARD on the 2015 – 2023 Rickenbacker model 4003, 4003W, 4003S, and 4003S5. It is also on some of the 2014 4003W that were manufactured later in that year. The 4003v2 model is custom made for 4003 basses with that pickguard. It is very close, but not quite interchangeable with the 4001 or 4003 Model designs.Due to variations in models and years and the EXACT FIT these are made to, to have the fit and look to be right on, ALL models MUST use the appropriate version.It is not possible to offer a “one size fits all” version – Believe me it would make our lives easier! Easy on, easy off — NO NEW HOLES — ZERO modifications to your bass! ========= If you are a finger-style player with a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003, you know there is no really good place to “hang your thumb” – You see many Rics with a wear spot at the corner of the pickguard where players try to “dig in”, and many Rics with the chrome cover removed from the bridge pickup to allow finger style access. I designed this for my own 4003 as I wanted to make it more comfortable to play and keep the “cover on” as the classic look that is a big part of this bass for many Ric fans. The 4003v2 model is custom made for the new pickguards that Rickenbacker began using on some 4003W’s in 2014,and began to use on other variations of 4003 in 2015 and 2016. By 2017, it became the standard pickguard for all Ric 4003’s. It’s very close, but not quite interchangeable with the classic 4003 and 4001 Models.Due to variations in models and years and the EXACT FIT these are made to,it is not possible to offer a “one size fits all” version (Believe me it would make our lives easier!) For the fit and look to be 100% right on, all Ric models MUST must use the appropriate Zero-Mod thumb rest version. HOW TO KNOW WHICH PICKGUARD YOU HAVE:Look at the two pickguard pictures above.The classic 4003 has two rounded corners, and the screw holes are both a similar distance to the edge of the pickguard.The NEW pickguard has one corner that is more pointed, with its screw hole much closer to the edge than the screw hole on the rounded corner. The “transition years” are the years where it is the most important for you to verify which guard you have.For MOST 4003 basses (those made from the start of the 4003 thru 2013, and SOME in the transition years of 2014 – 2016, a classic 4003 will give you a better fit. For early 4003’s with 2-piece pickguards, a 4001 thumb rest will give you a better fit.
